The Cheetah Enclosure – 6

Choose a resident cheetah to sponsor

Please become a conservation partner and assist us by covering part or all of the annual costs for caring for these non-releasable cheetahs. Each cheetah costs CCF an estimated £2,500 a year in care. These costs include food, veterinary care and pen maintenance.

If you sponsor the cost of the care of a CCF non-releasable cheetah you will receive two updates during a year (please provide an e-mail address for updates if other than yours). You can also create your own personalised Sponsorship Certificate to print out, and download a special photo poster of your cheetah, taken from the official cheetah ID book in Namibia. Each JPEG poster file is up to 1MB in size and up to 250mm across, and shows pictures of the cheetah, highlighting distinguishing markings for identification. IMPORTANT: If you want the sponsorship to be a gift, be sure to note this using the Message to Seller facility on the main PayPal payment screen.

To create a Sponsorship Certificate or download a poster, be sure to click ‘Return to Merchant’ after you have completed your PayPal transaction, or you will not see our ‘Thank You’ page, which contains the information required.

If you sponsor a cheetah for a whole year (£2,500) you will receive special recognition at our headquarters in Namibia.

Sponsoring is simple! Just click the 'Sponsor Me' button under any cheetah's story. You will be taken to a PayPal secure payment page, where you can choose how much you want to sponsor your cheetah for. Once you've sponsored one cheetah, you can come back and sponsor another one if you wish. Here are five of our resident cheetahs. See the other pages for more.

Kayla

"I arrived at CCF in April 2007 with my half sister Kiana when we were around 2 years old. We live inside CCF's 64 hectare pen known as Bellebeno which we share with 12 other females. Bellebeno is located 25km from the main CCF farm Elandsvreugde and we spend most of the time in specific areas within the 64 hectares and some even formed coalitions. Kiana and I stick together all the time."

Before arriving at CCF Kayla and Kiana were kept in less than ideal conditions and were not fed a proper diet, resulting in them being much smaller than other cheetahs of the same age. At some point during her time before coming to CCF Kayla injured her tail resulting in a pinched nerve at its base. Her tail therefore does not function properly and just dangles when she runs. Kayla is also a much more delicate character than her feisty half sister and often relies on her to fight off their fellow pen mates when they start causing trouble.

Despite her small size and damaged tail Kayla is a very enthusiastic runner and is always one of the first to arrive at feeding time. However, whereas the other Bellebeno girls greet their keepers with aggressive posturing Kayla and Kiana always huddle together under their favourite bush and wait patiently and politely.

Before arriving at CCF Kiana and Kayla were kept in less than ideal conditions and were not fed a proper diet, resulting in them being much smaller than other cheetahs of the same age. Kiana also has a heart murmur and receives a pill every day to lower her blood pressure. To give Kiana her pill her keepers hide it in a piece of meat and chuck it in front of her before the main feeding, making her the envy of all the other Bellebeno girls!

Despite her condition and small size Kiana is a feisty character who often has to protect her half sister when the other girls come looking for trouble. She is also an enthusiastic runner and is always one of the first to arrive at feeding time. However, whereas the other Bellebeno girls greet their keepers with aggressive posturing, Kiana and Kayla always huddle together under their favourite bush and wait patiently and politely.

Harry

Harry and her two siblings, Ron and Hermione, came to CCF in September 2005 from south of Otjiwarongo. CCF was called by a farmer who had hand-captured two cheetah cubs with a third still out in the bush by herself. The cubs were easily caught, due to their young age and weak condition; it appeared that they had lost their mother. Sadly, her fate remains unknown. The third cub was caught a week later and reunited with her siblings. They are healthy and adapting very well to their new surroundings at CCF.

Harry is named after J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter character, because when "she" arrived she had a small lightning-bolt-shaped scratch under her right eye. She is very shy around people and will wait until her siblings, Ron and Hermione, approach people before joining in the fun. Harry is very golden in colour with dark eyes and is only slightly smaller than her brother, Ron.

Ron

Ron and his two sisters, Harry and Hermione, came to CCF in September 2005 from south of Otjiwarongo.

Ron is named after one of the characters in the popular books by J.K. Rowling and although he appears to be the most aggressive, he is the most gentle of the three siblings, so long as there is a meat treat involved. He is the most dominant, and often chases his sisters around the pen for play, preferring to chase them than chasing lures. Ron's distinguishing marks are his kinked tail and almond-shaped eyes, which are a very light amber colour. He has a very laid-back personality and is very well behaved.

Hermione

Hermione and her two siblings, Ron and Harry, came to CCF in September 2005 from south of Otjiwarongo.

Hermione is named after one of the characters in the popular books by J.K. Rowling and is the smallest and darkest of the three siblings...and the most playful. She has a small teddy bear face and big dark eyes, by far the cutest of the three. She is very gentle by nature, but not as much as her brother Ron. She tends to follow Ron's lead during feeding. Hermione is the most social and will chase her brother and sister around the pen even though she is much smaller. She is an instigator, but able to hold her own.
