This will be a most welcome return for Laurie Marker, from the Cheetah Conservation Fund in Namibia. Dr Marker will be giving us an update on the Cheetah Conservation Fund's very significant and unique research and activities - including the cheetah census, cheetah reproductive research, farmers' training courses, Livestock Guarding Dog Programme and the international activities of the CCF in Kenya and Algeria, as well as the regional strategies to save this species.

Not only a brilliant speaker as we know, but Laurie Marker is a remarkable person, completely dedicated to cheetah conservation. She has just been selected as one of 6 finalists for the 2008 Indianapolis Prize, a major component of its mission being to 'inspire local and global communities to celebrate, protect, and preserve our natural world through conservation, education and research'. This biennial award brings the world's attention to the cause of animal conservation and the brave, talented and dedicated people who spend their lives saving the World`s endangered animal species.

Laurie Marker is in great demand as a speaker world wide because of her apparent complete dedication and enthusiasm, together with her insight into the many problems (political, practical, economical) involved in cheetah conservation. She manages to gives one hope after you have heard her, that she can actually do something about it, and that cheetahs are extremely fortunate to have her on their side.

This talk will also tie-in very nicely with the opening during 2008 of the Zoo's lovely new cheetah exhibit!
